Annika Dries started swimming at the Laguna Beach Community Pool when she was 7 years old. She joined the junior lifeguard program and eventually the girls club water polo team.
She became one of the best water polo players in Orange County in high school and earned a spot on the United States women's water polo team.
The women won gold in the Summer Olympics in London. Dries returned to Laguna Beach to share her gold medal with the community that built her road to the Olympics.

US Olympic gold medalist Annika Dries
Annika Dries, a member of the 2012 Team USA women's water polo team and a graduate of Laguna Beach High School, returned to her hometown as an Olympic gold medalist. The United States women's water polo team won the gold medal at the Summer Games in London.
Dries, who also plays on the Stanford water polo team, is the daughter of music professors. Her mom and dad teach music at California State University Fullerton.
Dries said watching her parents devote so much time to music inspired her to put the same dedication to water polo.

Olympic gold medalist Annika Dries visits Laguna Beach
Annika Dries, a member of the United States women's water polo team, visited her hometown of Laguna Beach. She shared the gold medal she won at the Summer Olympics in London with the hundreds of people who came out to greet her at the Laguna Beach Community Pool.
